Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina women’s golf opens play in the penultimate event of its season on Sunday, opening competition in its regular season finale at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate hosted by Appalachian State at the par-72, 5,810 yard Mimosa Hills Country Club in Morganton.
A tournament originally co-founded by mountain rivals Western Carolina and App State, the Mountaineers continue to administer the event at the foothills course. In addition to the aforementioned duo, the two-day, 36-hole tournament will also include two squads from Elon, Gardner-Webb, Longwood, Sandhills Community College, USC Upstate, and Wofford.
The first round opens with set tee times at 9:00 am on Sunday. Paired with golfers from Gardner-Webb and Elon, the Catamounts will tee-off beginning at 10:44 am. Live scoring is slated to be available through GolfStat.com.
WCU’s scoring five includes sophomores Hazel Martin and Harper Gilreath in the No.1 and No.2 position with senior Shannon Heerey playing at No. 3. Rounding out the side for first-year head coach Courtney Gunter are junior Brianna Plummer and sophomore Maya White.
Returning to the event for the first time since 2017, Plummer is the lone current Catamount to have played a collegiate event at the course, playing unattached as an individual as a freshman with consecutive rounds of 87 to finish tied for 60th overall (174).
