Cullowhee, N.C. – The Western Carolina cross country teams are a week away from opening the 2019 season at the Covered Bridge Open hosted by Appalachian State. The women’s race is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. followed by the men’s race at 5:45 p.m.
In the second of the Catamount cross country series, #CatamountCountry is being introduced to Tyler White, a senior from Conover, N.C.

White: Super Speed.

What motivates you to work hard?
White: My teammates and my faith. Sometimes the grind is hard and these get me out of the door.
What is something you always love doing, even when you are tired or rushed? Why?
White: SI will never miss a meal under any circumstances. I love food.
Who is the most important person in your life?
White: My fiancé and recent WCU cross country/track & field alum Christina Nikolaou.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
White: A bull rider, pro baseball player and American Idol winning country singer.

White: “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.”
If you weren’t running cross country, what sport would you have played in college?
One major goal for the 2019 season?
White: I’d like to help my team place top three at the conference meet and push my teammates to reach their potential.
What made you choose Western Carolina University?
White: The team atmosphere and the beautiful mountains.
What has been your favorite class to take at WCU?
White: Sport Education and Lifetime Sports.
What’s your favorite part about being a student-athlete at Western Carolina?
White: Representing the Catamounts at meets and be-friending other student-athletes.
What’s the most challenging thing about being a student-athlete at Western Carolina?
White: Time management and grinding when no one is watching.
