Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina head men’s golf coach Tim Eckberg added four newcomers to his returning cast of five for the 2019-2020 season. Among the four are one international student, one redshirt freshman transfer, and two from the United States including one in-state product.

Eckberg and WCU welcome Tyler Bussert (Port Byron, Ill. / Iowa/Riverdale HS), Quinton Metz (Wilkesboro, N.C. / Wilkes Central HS), Magnus Pedersen (Moss, Norway), and Pierre Viallaneix (Apopka, Fla. / Winterpark HS) to the men’s golf roster.

Western Carolina’s 2019-20 schedule, which features 11 total events with five in the fall and six in the spring semester, will be officially released in the coming days.

Here’s more information on WCU’s four newest men’s golf roster additions:

Tyler Bussert

Redshirt Freshman – Port Byron, Ill. (Iowa / Riverdale HS)

Prior to Western Carolina: Originally signed with Iowa out of high school in November 2017, but did not compete for the Hawkeyes … Was a part of the Illinois high school state championship as the individual medalist as a senior, following-up on a runner-up finish as a junior … Four-time Illinois All-State selection and a two-time conference champion as a freshman and junior … Set a school record for low 9-holes (30) and a low 18-hole round (66) … Also played basketball as a prep.

Quinton Metz

Freshman – Wilkesboro, N.C. (Wilkes Central HS)

Prior to Western Carolina: Placed third at the 2018 North Carolina High School State Championship … Two-time Mountain Valley Athletic Conference (MVAC) Golfer of the Year and All-MVAC performer … Finished 46th among amateur golfers in North Carolina at the 2018 NC Amateur … Finished 17th at the North Carolina Junior Boys Championship … Joins two former Wilkes Central High products – juniors Zach Caudill and his older brother, Chandler Metz – on the Catamount roster.

Magnus Pedersen

Freshman – Moss, Norway (Hoppern Skole)

Prior to Western Carolina: Has been very active among the junior and amateur golf circuits in Scandinavia including Norway, Sweden, and Denmark since 2017 … Ranked first in Order of Merit for the Srixon Junior Elite Tour … Posted a third-place finish in the Norwegian Junior Championship and had a fifth-place showing at the Norwegian National Championship

Pierre Viallaneix

Freshman – Apopka, Fla.  (Winter Park HS)

Prior to Western Carolina: Finished in sixth-place the 2017 Florida High School state championship while also posting a sixth-place showing at the 2018 Azalea Amateur … In 2016, he finished as the Orlando City Amateur Champion … Prior to the fall of his freshman season, won the 2019 Grand Prix de Houlgate in Normandy, France in mid-June with a two-round score of 139 (72-67).
