Kansas City, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced that Western Carolina’s Marc Gosselin, Yalim Olcay and Onno Steger have been named to the 2018-19 NABC Honors Court.

Gosselin, Olcay and Steger are the first Catamounts to be named to the Honors Court since Ashley Williams in 2016-17. The three honorees are the most by WCU in a single year since the awards started back in 2006-07. Earlier this month, WCU also received the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award for the first time since the award started in 2012-13.

Each year the NABC recognizes those men’s collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the past season. The NABC Honors Court recognizes the talents and gifts that these student-athletes possess off the court and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom. In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria. The qualifications are as follows: 1. Academically a junior or senior and a varsity player. 2. Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2018-19 academic year. 3. Students must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution.

Gosselin graduated in May with a bachelor’s degree in Communications. He averaged 5.5 points and 4.7 rebounds in 32 games during his senior season. For his career, the Lyon, France, native averaged 6.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, playing in 128 games with 101 career starts.

Olcay, a finance major with a 3.83 GPA, came off the bench in 11 games and contributed to the Catamount offense in four games. Olcay grabbed a season-best three rebounds against Furman.

Steger, a rising senior innovation leadership and finance double major with a 3.91 GPA, averaged a career-best 11.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game as he started all 32 games last season. A product of Upper Arlington, Ohio, Steger enters his senior season with a 6.6 point and 3.1 rebound per game average.
