Cullowhee, N.C. – After playing its first 11 matches of the 2018 season against non-conference opponents, Western Carolina dives into the Southern Conference portion of its schedule on Wednesday as the Catamounts host ETSU inside the Ramsey Center at 6 p.m.

Wednesday’s SoCon opener is Close Out Summer night, as students are encouraged to wear summer attire. The first 24 students in attendance will receive a beach towel courtesy of Dunkin’ Donuts. The contest will also serve as the annual Faculty/Staff Appreciation night.

The match will be streamed on ESPN3 (free with cable/satellite subscription) with live stats available via a link on www.catamountsports.com.

Western Carolina is 6-5 following a 3-1 loss at UNC Asheville back on Sept. 11. The Catamounts were scheduled to participate in the Hampton Inn Seahawk Invitational in Wilmington last weekend but the tournament was cancelled due to Hurricane Florence.

ETSU is 11-3 overall with wins over Northern Illinois and No. 22 Washington State along with a loss to Western Kentucky at the WKU Tournament in Bowling Green, Ky., last weekend. The Buccaneers have the reigning SoCon Offensive Player of the Week, Leah Clayton, as well as the SoCon Defensive Player of the Week, Braedyn Tutton.

Western Carolina leads the all-time 43-37 following three matches in 2017. The Catamounts and Buccaneers each protected their home court with ETSU defeating the Catamounts 3-1 on Sept. 19 before a thrilling 3-2 home win for Western Carolina on Oct. 22. ETSU defeated Western Carolina 3-0 in the Southern Conference Tournament quarterfinal.

The Catamounts return to the road this weekend, traveling to Mercer on Friday at 6 p.m. before wrapping up the weekend at The Citadel on Saturday at 2 p.m. Both matches will feature live stats with Friday’s match airing on the SoCon Digital Network.
