Final Stats

Charlotte, N.C. - The Western Carolina volleyball team fell to the University of Akron, 3-0, in the team's first match of the UNC Charlotte Tournament Friday night in Charlotte, N.C. WCU kept the games close, but lost 30-27, 30-20, 30-26.

Catamount senior Michelle Gorton led the team with 13 kills and 24 attacks, while senior setter Shari Harder recorded 26 assists in the match. Freshman Heather Koontz posted two blocks in her first ever collegiate match, while senior Sara Komosinski added one. Akron scooped up 43 digs to Western's 36.

The Cats are set to face Charlotte at 1:30 pm Saturday and then Florida International at 5:00 pm to wrap up the tournament. Check back with catamountsports.com for further updates.
