Cullowhee, N.C. - Nominations for the 2019 Western Carolina University Athletics Hall of Fame are being accepted through Sunday, March 31, 2019, with the 30th induction class all-time to be enshrined next fall in conjunction with a Catamount home football weekend.

All told, a combined 120 individual former student-athletes, coaches and administrators, six athletic teams, 11 Patron Award winners, and two honored for career achievement after WCU have been inducted since the Hall of Fame's establishment in 1990.

The purpose of the Western Carolina University Athletics Hall of Fame is to recognize and honor those persons whose outstanding contributions have enriched the athletic programs of Western Carolina University and to provide an enduring memorial and preserve for posterity the memories of those persons whose endeavors brought distinction to the university.

To be considered for induction into the Western Carolina Athletics Hall of Fame, nominations must be submitted to the Hall of Fame committee where they are kept on file for a period of five years. Official nomination forms are available online at Each spring, the committee convenes to vote upon a list of nominees that is approved by the Hall's executive committee which vets and checks that those nominated meet the criteria as put forth by the constitution.

Criteria for nomination into the WCU Athletic Hall of Fame includes having distinguished oneself through outstanding contributions while representing Western Carolina University as a student-athlete, coach or associate of the athletic department for two full seasons or one full season in two or more sports. Contributions include, but are not restricted to, all-conference, all-state, all-region or all-district honors; All-America plaudits; conference player of the year or individual conference champion; university, conference and/or world record-setting performances; competition as an Olympian.

A minimum of five (5) years must have elapsed since the student-athletes participated at the university, or since the association with the athletic department has ended, with the only exception coming by way of a posthumous award. Nominees must have left the university in good standing.

All statistical verification will come from the Western Carolina Office of Athletics Media Relations. The 15-member Western Carolina Athletics Hall of Fame Committee, which consists of 12 voting members, weighs each nomination before selecting the 2019 class, with a nominee needing a two-thirds majority vote for induction. Once the selections are made, the 2019 Western Carolina Athletics Hall of Fame class will be announced during the summer months with the subsequent ceremony schedule for the fall.
