Boone, N.C. – Sophomore Madison Isaacson carded a 1-over par round of 73 on Monday to sit in a two-way tie for the runner-up spot at the halfway point of the Hound Ears Intercollegiate, hosted by rival Appalachian State at the Hound Ears Golf Club. Just two strokes off the pace, Isaacson led WCU to fourth with an 18-hole team score of 322.
Isaacson, who has trio of top 10 finishes in each of her first three starts at WCU including medalist honors in the season-opening Judaculla Cup, is poised to continue her early-season trend entering Tuesday’s final 18 holes. WCU freshmen Bailee Twiford and Victoria Ladd sit in ties for 21st and 24th, respectively, at 82 and 83 in Monday’s first round of play.
Playing unattached as an individual, junior Hazel Martin sits in a tie with Twiford for 21st overall after shooting 82 on Monday.
Sarah Houle of William & Mary leads the 35-golfer field after posting the lone round under par on Monday, shooting 1-under 71 to lead Isaacson and Gardner-Webb’s Allison Chandler by a stroke. Just seven strokes separate first-place and 10th overall in the chase for individual medalist honors.
Tournament-host Appalachian State and defending tournament champion William & Mary sit tied atop the team leader board with matching scores of 308 after 18 of the scheduled 36 holes. Gardner-Webb is five-strokes in arrears at 313 in third-place, followed by WCU (322), Wofford (324) and Longwood (329) to round-out the field.
Paired with golfers from Wofford and Longwood, WCU’s scoring five opens play with a shotgun start beginning at 9:30 am on Tuesday. Though there is no live scoring of the tournament, final results will be posted online at CatamountSports.com and through social media using the handle, @Catamounts, as soon as they are made available.
