Mesa, Ariz. – For a third-consecutive round, the Western Carolina women’s golf team improved upon its team score by shooting 322 on Sunday, but the Catamounts were unable to advance in a tough field at the Clover Cup to finish 15th overall at the par-72, 6,184-yard Longbow Golf Club.

Freshman Amy Wooten paced WCU’s scoring five, finishing in a tie for 61st overall with a three-day score of 238 while sophomore teammate Hazel Martin slipped into 74th in the final standings with a score of 246. Sophomore Maya White posted her best round of the event with a 6-over par 78 on Sunday to move into a tie for 77th overall at 249.

Rounding out WCU’s scoring five was junior Brianna Plummer, who also saved her best round for last in posting a 256 to finish in 86th while Harper Gilreath came home 90th overall with a score of 270.

Wooten led WCU with 29 pars over the three-day tournament while White charted a team-best seven birdies.

Southern California cruised to the tournament championship by 16 strokes over runner-up, Houston, 876-to-892. Kentucky finished third with a three-day score of 894, followed by Oklahoma (895) and Mississippi State (902) to round out the top five. Out of the Southern Conference, Mercer (913) finished sixth and UNCG (921) was 11th.

The 54-hole tournament finished with a four-way tie for the individual medalist honors at 2-under par as Leonie Harm of Houston, Jennifer Chang of Southern Cal, Libby Winans of Oklahoma, and Leonie Bettel of Kentucky each posted scores of 214. Winans and Harm posted final round scores of 4-under par 68 to climb to the top of the leaderboard.

Western Carolina returns to action March 31 through April 1 at the Edisto Island Invitational, co-hosted by Charleston Southern and the College of Charleston at the Plantation Course at Edisto on Edisto Island, S.C.
