Wallace, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's golf team concluded two rounds of play on Monday at the River Landing Classic, hosted by UNC Wilmington at the par-72, 6,082-yard River Landing Golf Club. The Catamounts finished the first day in 14th place after carding consecutive team rounds of 327 for a two-round total of 654.
After 36 holes of play, freshman Hazel Martin leads the team in a tie for 65th overall with 15-over par, 159 -- a stroke ahead of a two-way tie between seniors Alyssa Morahan and Amanda Floberg in a tie for 67th overall at 160. Morahan and Martin led the squad with three birdies apiece on Monday.
Rounding out WCU's scoring five is freshman Maya Wood in a tie for 79th with rounds of 88 and 87 for a total of 175, and her classmate, Cameron Wood, in 81st at 179 (89-90).
Two Catamounts are playing in the tournament unattached as individuals as sophomore Brianna Plummer is tied for 76th overall at 163 (83-80) and freshman Harper Gilreath is 83rd overall at 188 (95-93).
Second after the first round, Campbell leads the 14-team field with a 4-under par score of 572, overtaking first-round leader, Memphis (580), in the second 18 holes. East Carolina rallied from an eighth-place tie to sit in third overall at 588, with Marshall (589) and Charlotte (592) rounding out the top five.
Campbell's Ayelen Irizar used a strong opening round 5-under par, 67, to lead the 83-golfer field with a two-round score of 141. She sits one stroke ahead of runner-up Madison Thomas of Memphis at 142.
