Kiawah Island Spring Classic - Final Results Get Acrobat Reader

Kiawah Island, S.C. - Western Carolina women's golf finished its spring-opening event in 39th place overall at the Edwin Watts / Kiawah Island Classic, the largest collegiate women's golf tournament in the nation. Senior Alyssa Morahan paced the Catamount scoring five, finishing tied for 102nd overall in the final standings.

Morahan, a product of North Reading, Mass., closed the event with an 81 on Tuesday to post a three-round score of 232, sliding 20 positions in the final standings. Her classmate Amanda Floberg climbed 13 spots on the final day into a tie for 158th overall with a 54-hole score of 241.

A trio of freshmen rounded out WCU's scoring five with Hazel Martin advancing eight spots into a tie for 163rd following a final round of 81 for a score of 242. She was followed by classmates Maya White in 179th overall with a score of 245 and Cameron Wood who moved up two spots into a tie f or 188th overall with a score of 247.

All told, Morahan led the Catamounts with 33 pars over the 54-hole event while Wood paced WCU with five birdies in the tournament.

Event-host, College of Charleston, led wire-to-wire to claim the team championship, edging Murray State by seven strokes, 872-to-879. Jacksonville finished third, 10-strokes off the pace at 882, with UNC Wilmington (886) and Western Kentucky (889) rounding out the top five of the 43-team field.

The individual medalist podium was crowded as three of the 218 total competitors finished the 54-hole tied for the top spot at 5-under par, 211. Murray State's Lucila Puente Rodriguez climbed 10 spots into first place with a final-round score of 68, while Lyberty Anderson of UNC Wilmington advanced two positions into the tie. Valentina Giraldo of Jacksonville State, who held a share of the lead through both of the first two rounds, finished tied for first after carding a 2-over par, 74, on Tuesday.

Western Carolina returns to action March 5-6 at the River Landing Classic. The two-day, 54-hole event is being co-hosted by UNC Wilmington and East Carolina at the River Landing Golf Club in Wallace, N.C.
