Greensboro, N.C. - Ninth after the opening round on Monday, the Western Carolina women's golf team sits in 10th-place overall with 18 holes to play at the Starmount Forest Fall Classic, hosted by Southern Conference rival, UNCG. WCU turned in rounds of 317 and 332 for a 36-hole score of 649.
Freshman Hazel Martin paced the Catamounts on the first day, sitting in 18th-place overall with a two-round score of 152 (73-79). The Brisbane, Australia, native countered four bogies and a double-bogey with five birdies in the first round for the 1-over, 73. She added a sixth birdie in the second round with eight combined bogies and nine pars.
Seniors Amanda Floberg and Alyssa Morahan sit in ties for 42nd and 53rd, respectively. Floberg (160) posted rounds of 5-over par, 77, and 83, with a pair of birdies in the first 18 holes, while Morahan shot 85 and 83 for a two-round total of 168. Rounding out WCU's scoring five are freshman Maya White in a tie for 55th (82-87=169) and classmate Harper Gilreath in 62nd overall (86-89=175).
Playing unattached as an individual in her collegiate debut, freshman Cameron Wood sits in a tie for 58th overall after shooting rounds of 87 and 85 (172).
With four of its scoring five inside the individual top five, Campbell carded a 3-over par, 579, through 36 holes on Monday to hold a commanding lead over second-place, Marshall (603). Winthrop is third at 609, followed by a two-way tie for fourth between William & Mary and tourney-host, UNCG, at 610.
Campbell's Annelie Sjoholm posted rounds of 1-over par, 73, and 2-under par, 70, for a two-round score of 143 to take a stroke lead over teammate Stacey White and Winthrop's Chelsea Dantonio who are tied for second overall at even-par, 144.
The final round is scheduled for a shotgun start on Tuesday morning at 9:00 am. WCU is paired with golfers from North Carolina Tech and fellow SoCon-foe, The Citadel, and will tee off between holes No. 13 and 16 with Wood starting on No. 18.
