Panther Intercollegiate - Round 1 Results Get Acrobat Reader

Stockbridge, Ga. - The Western Carolina women's golf team posted an opening round score of 315 on Sunday to sit in a two-way tie for 11th-place overall after 18 of the scheduled 54 holes at the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate, hosted by Georgia State at the par-72, 6,003-yard Eagle's Landing Country Club.

Senior Ashley Thompson paced the Catamount scoring five with an opening-round, 4-over par, 76, on Sunday. Starting on the back nine, the Clyde, N.C., product played her first nine holes at 1-over par with three bogies against a pair of birdies. On the front nine, Thompson had two bogies and a double-bogey, finishing the round with a birdie on No. 9 for the 4-over round.

Sophomore Natalia Villavicencio sits a stroke back in a tie for 33rd overall after shooting 5-over, 77. She carded two birdies against a pair of bogies over the opening 18 holes to make the turn to the front nine at even-par. Five pars on the back coupled with three bogies and a double-bogey relegated the Santiago, Chile, native to 5-over par.

Junior Alyssa Morahan shot 7-over par, 79, to sit in a tie for 48th overall, while senior Bethany Galloway is tied for 62nd after a first-round 83, and junior Amanda Floberg in 80th after posting an 89, all carding a birdie in Sunday's first round.

Murray State holds a one-stroke lead over Eastern Kentucky after 18 holes, 293-to-294. Oral Roberts is three strokes off the pace at 296, followed by Kansas State (298) in fourth and a two-way tie between Winthrop and Florida Gulf Coast for fifth after first round scores of 300.

EKU's Elsa Moberly has a three-stroke lead over a three-way tie for the runner-up spot after shooting a 4-under par round of 68. Kennedy Ishee of Oral Roberts, Madeline Marck-Sherk of Florida Gulf Coast, and Murray State's Anna Moore each shot 1-under, 71, to sit tied for second.

Paired with golfers from Appalachian State and Western Michigan, the Catamount scoring five will tee off on the back nine beginning at 10:00 am. Live scoring of the event is available online at
