Jacksonville, Fla. - Senior Ashley Thompson sits in a tie for 38th overall to lead Western Carolina at the spring-opening UNF Collegiate being contested at the par-72, 6,002-yard Jacksonville Golf and Country Club. WCU carded team rounds of 318 and 317 for a 36-hole score of 635 to sit 15th in the in the highly-competitive 16-team field.
The third and final round is scheduled for Tuesday morning with an 8:30 am shotgun start. Paired with the host, UNF, and Western Kentucky, WCU's scoring five will hit the course between the 13th and 15th holes on the back nine.
Thompson carded rounds of 76 and 77 for a two-round score of 153. She is followed by sophomore teammate Natalia Villavicencio in a tie for 58th with a score of 159 (79-80). Freshman Brianna Plummer carded the best two rounds of her rookie season at 80 and 81 for a 36-hole score of 161 to move into a tie for 69th overall.
Thompson and Morahan both charted five birdies on Monday while Thompson was matched by Plummer with a team-best 19 pars.
Memphis and Old Dominion sit tied atop the team standings with matching two-round scores of 596, with Campbell sitting third overall just two strokes in arrears at 598. Eastern Kentucky is fourth at 599, two strokes ahead of a two-way tie for fifth between Southern Miss and Daytona State College at 601.
