NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Western Carolina women's soccer dropped a close contest 3-2 to Belmont Friday in the Catamounts' first road game of the 2017 season at E.S. Rose Park.

After a scoreless first half, all five goals in the game were scored in the final 45 minutes of the contest. The Catamounts broke open the scoreless game off a goal by sophomore Jordan Dawsey. The Bruins scored three unanswered goals the Catamounts' opening salvo to seal the game despite a Catamount late goal in the final five minutes of the game.


Turning Point
Tied 1-1 in the second half, Belmont scored two unanswered goals in the span of three minutes to seal the game. Individual Leaders
- Junior Megan McCallister scored her second straight goal of the season against Belmont.
- Sophomore Dawsey scored the first goal of the game and her first of the 2017 season.
- For the second straight game, junior Jacquelyn Gnassi and freshman Natalia Icen shared duties in goal. Gnassi held Belmont scoreless for the first 45 minutes of the game not allowing a goal and picking up three saves.

Inside the Box Score
- Western Carolina scored the first goal of the game, off the foot of Dawsey, at the 57th minute taking a shot 25 yards out and finding the back of the net.
- Belmont went on to score three unanswered goals tying the game just three minutes after WCU scored at the 60th minute. Fourteen minutes later the Bruins scored two goals in the span of three minutes to give Belmont a 3-1 lead.
- At the 85th minute, McCallister pulled Western Carolina within one goal when she took a shot from 20 yards out and sent it past the Bruins goal keeper.
- Icen took the loss giving up three goals in the second half and falls to 1-1 on the year.
- Belmont had whopping 10 corner kicks in the game and Western Carolina had three. The Bruins also recorded a total of 19 shots to WCU's 11.

- In the first two games of the season, McCallister has two goals, an assist on eight shots and has scored five points for Western Carolina.
- Western Carolina is now 0-2 against Belmont all-time.
- Dawsey scored the first goal of her career against Belmont on Friday.

- A pair of sophomores has scored the first goals for Western Carolina in the first two games of the year. Emily Threatt scored the first goal for the Catamounts in the win against Morehead State while fellow sophomore Dawsey scored the first for WCU in the loss to Belmont.
