The Basics

Cullowhee, N.C. -- Western Carolina women's soccer dropped a hard-fought contest with Elon 1-0 Sunday at the Catamount Athletic Complex.

In a game mainly controlled by Western Carolina, with the Catamounts holding the Phoenix to one shot in the first half, Elon found the back of the net late in the second to break open the scoreless game and garner the win.

Turning Point
At the 76:12 mark Elon's Sarah Henson took advantage of a battle in front of the box for the score. After Bria Bass' shot was blocked, Henson took the rebound pass from Grace Bennett, and sent it into the right side of the goal giving Elon the only score of the game.


Individual Leaders
-Elon goal keeper Katelyn Fowler had four saves in the game while Catamount counterpart Carly Tinstman gave up one goal and had two saves.
- Kasey Cooke, Sayres McKenna and Emily Threatt each has a pair of shots.

Inside the Box Score
- In a scoreless game midway through the second half, Western Carolina dodged a bullet, at the 72:05 mark. A yellow card on a WCU player gave Elon a direct kick in front of the box. With a wall of Phoenix and Catamounts in front of the goal, Elon's Erin Tranhouser's shot went wide left.
- Elon continued to press and were rewarded just four minutes later when the Phoenix found the back of the goal. - Western Carolina out-shoot Elon seven to six with five of the Phoenix shots coming in the second half.

News & Notes
- Western Carolina was shutout for the second time in the last three games.
- The 1-0 loss by WCU is the lowest margin of loss for the Catamounts this season.
- For the second time this season Western Carolina has gone 1-1 in a weekend slate of games.
- Western Carolina concludes its four-game home-stand with a record of 1-3.
