Final Stats

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Western Carolina volleyball team saw all 16 student-athletes on the floor Saturday afternoon as the Catamounts cruised to a dominating 3-0 victory over Mississippi Valley State in the team’s final match of the Fight Like Hal Memorial Invitational. The 3-0 sweep was the Catamounts fifth 3-0 victory of the season. Sophomore Abigail Veit led the Catamount attack with 12 kills and six digs.

Eight Catamounts registered kills in the match led by Veit. Freshman MaKenzie White and senior Katie O’Connor each added six kills while sophomore Aleah Keaton and senior Gabby Edmondson had five kills each.

Freshman Hannah Price took the majority of the playing time at setter as she dished out 26 assists, had five digs and added a block. Senior Jo-Leigh VerVelde played in just one set and had five assists, a dig and a pair of service aces.

Senior Reeve Reinsborough led the team with nine digs over just two sets while Veit and sophomore Meagan Snachez each had six. Twelve of WCU’s 16 athletes picked up at least one dig in the match.

The Catamounts opened the match with an impressive 25-6 first set victory before coasting to 25-19 and 25-18 wins in the second and third set, respectively.

As a team, the Catamounts hit .239 while holding MVSU to a -.044 average. MVSU had just 15 kills over the three sets compared to WCU’s 41.

The Catamounts improve to 5-8 on the season with the victory while Mississippi Valley fell to 1-12.

WCU will now begin preparations for its first Southern Conference match of the season which will take place Tuesday, Sept. 19 at ETSU.
