CULLOWHEE, N.C. - The Western Carolina volleyball team fell to the visiting Terriers of Wofford College Wednesday night 3-0 inside the Ramsey Center. WCU out-blocked Wofford 12-5 but it was not enough as the Terriers picked up their third Southern Conference victory of the season.
With the loss, WCU dropped to 7-10 overall and 2-2 in SoCon play while Wofford improved to 10-8 overall and 3-1 in conference action.
Junior Katie O;Connor led the defense with a team-high six blocks including a pair of solo stops. Junior Jo-Leigh VerVelde chipped in four blocks with one solo and freshman Aleah Keaton had three block assists.
VerVelde dished out 28 assists while freshman Meagan Sanchez led the team with 11 digs.
The Terriers had two athletes reach double-figures in kills including Catie Cronister who had a match-high 14 and Colleen Reilly who added 11.
The Terriers out-hit WCU .211 to .107 and out-dug the Catamounts 47-42.
Wofford took the opening set 25-22 before winning the second set 25-20 and clinching the match with a 25-20 third set victory.
The Catamounts will hit the road this weekend with a match at ETSU on Friday and a match at Chattanooga on Saturday.
