WCU vs. W&M Final Stats | WCU vs. Charlotte Final Stats

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Western Carolina volleyball team dropped its final two matches at the Colonial Classic Saturday as the Catamounts fell to host William & Mary 3-0 before dropping a 3-1 decision to in-state rival Charlotte. Freshmen Meagan Sanchez and Abigail Veit were named to the All-Tournament team following the action.

The pair of losses drop WCU's overall record to 5-6 on the season. William & Mary improved to 3-5 with the victory over WCU while Charlotte moved to 5-4.

Veit led the Catamounts against The Tribe of W&M. Veit put down a team-high seven kills while picking up five digs. Junior Katie O'Connor and sophomore Moea Osbey each added five kills to the effort.

Sophomore Dakoda Hawkins and junior Reeve Reinsborough split time at setter as they each dished out 12 assists. Reinsborough added nine digs while Hawkins had six. Sanchez led the team in digs with 11 from her libero position.

The Catamounts got off to a slow start as they fell 25-8 in the opening set. The second set was an epic battle with William & Mary coming away with a 33-31 win. Both teams had several set points during the set but W&M were able to pick up the extra point win. The third and final set saw The Tribe pull away for a 25-16 victory.

Junior Kaycey Cermin led the way against Charlotte as she tallied 11 kills and three blocks. Veit added nine kills, 12 digs and three blocks including one solo stop. O'Connor and Osbey each added six kills to the total.

Sanchez led the team with 17 digs while junior Gabby Edmondson picked up 15.

Hawkins took the lead in assists with 17 to go along with five digs while Reinsborough dished out 12 assists and picked up seven digs.

WCU once again started slow dropping the first two sets 25-11 and 25-15. The third set went WCU's way with a 25-23 Catamount victory. The fourth set mirrored the third as the 49ers came away with a 25-23 win.

The Catamounts will have two days of rest before they hit the road for a non-conference match-up at Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C., Tuesday evening.
