CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women’s tennis closed out day two of the WCU Invite Sunday with another strong showing at the Catamount Athletic Complex.

The Catamounts took two of three doubles matches against UNCA as the duo of Jordan Strickland and Emily Elliott won 6-2 at No. 1 doubles and Jacy Smith and Jordyn King took the win at No. 2 double 6-3. WCU had to forfeit the third doubles match against the Bulldogs.

In the round of singles matches against Tusculum, Western Carolina dropped just two matches. Strickland fell in a tight contest at No. 1 singles 7-6(5), 6-3, 10-4 and Lauren McCall fell at No. 4 singles in another close match 6-4, 6-3, 10-7. The Catamounts clinched the singles with the Pioneers with wins by Smith at No. 2 singles (6-4, 4-6, 19-5), King at No. 3 singles (6-0, 6-4), Carli Deehr at No. 5 singles (5-7, 6-4, 10-8) and Elliott at No. 6 (6-0, 7-5).

Western Carolina and USC Upstate only played with five singles players as the Spartans had just five available. McCall didn’t play in this match so Deehr moved to No. 4 singles and Elliott up to No. 5 singles. The Catamounts swept the Spartans in the five singles contests. The Catamount winners in singles were: Strickland (No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-2), Smith (No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-0), King (No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-0), Deehr (No. 4 singles 3-6, 6-2, 10-3) and Elliott (No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-0).
