MACON, Ga. – Western Carolina women’s tennis fell to Mercer 5-2 Saturday in Southern Conference play.

 

TURNING POINT:

After Western Carolina won the doubles point, taking two of three matches, Mercer rallied back claiming five of the six singles points. 

 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • The Catamounts took an early lead, winning the doubles competition. Mercer struck first with its No. 1 pairing of Katie Sidor and Celine Schepers claiming a 6-1 decision over Jordan Strickland and Savannah Taranto. Court No. 2 saw Western Carolina's duo of Jacy Smith and Julia Pezzuco beat Lucia Gutierrez and Marie Mottet. The Catamounts clinched the doubles competition with No. 3 Alexa Webb and Lauren McCall defeating Alara Hollyfield and Maeva Roquebert, 6-3.
  • The afternoon concluded with the Catamounts taking court No. 2 as Hollyfield fell to Smith, 6-7, 6-3, 6-3.

NOTES:

Smith won her fourth straight singles match and third consecutive in doubles. She is now 7-3 on the year at No. 2 singles which leads the team for most wins in the season.

 

UPCOMING:

Western Carolina will begin to play in the spring break swing in Orlando, Fla. taking on Savannah State at 11 a.m. Sunday.
