Jacksonville, Fla. – Juniors Devaniel Dale and Makaila McIntyre both competed on the opening day of the NCAA East Preliminaries at Hodges Stadium on Thursday. The three-day regional championship meet is being held on the campus of the University of North Florida.

Dale scored a 34th-place finish in the men’s 400-meter dash with a time of 47.19. The Salisbury, N.C. native was the lone qualifier in the event from a Southern Conference school and placed higher than student-athletes from Power 5 institutions such as Alabama, Florida, Virginia, and LSU.

McIntyre finished 46th in the women’s long jump with a leap of 5.40 meters (17’8.75”).

Dale returns to action on Friday in the men’s 200-meter dash at 7:55 p.m. Dakota Oxendine and Di’Joun Huitt are scheduled to compete on Saturday.
