Indianapolis, Ind. –  A total of five student-athletes will represent the Western Carolina track & field teams at the 2019 NCAA East Preliminary meet at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla. on May 23-25.

Devaniel Dale, Trini Feggett, Dijoun Huitt and Dakota Oxendine will represent the men’s team while Makaila McIntyre is the lone women’s qualifier.

Dale will compete in both the men’s 200-meter and 400-meter dash. He is the 32nd seed in the 200-meter dash thanks to his qualifying time of 20.86. In the 400-meter dash, Dale’s fastest time of 46.55 in the 400-meter dash earned him the 35th seed. Dale is the Southern Conference champion in both events.

Feggett’s mark of 7.50 meters (24’7.5”) in the long jump accomplished at the Catamount Classic earned him the 41st seed. Feggett tied for the top mark in the Southern Conference in the long jump this season.

Huitt returns to the East preliminary meet for the second straight season in the triple jump thanks to his qualifying mark of 15.42 meters (50’7.25”) which won him the Southern Conference Championship. He enters the preliminary meet as the 33rd seed.

McIntyre won the women’s long jump at the Southern Conference Championship with a qualifying mark of 6.14 meters (20’1.75”). She is the 38th seed in the event.

Oxendine earned a spot in the men’s high jump as the 33rd seed. Oxendine won the Southern Conference title as he cleared a height of 2.12 meters (6’11.5”).

Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas will serve as the host site for the NCAA Track & Field Championships on June 5-8. The top 12 finishers in each event at the East Preliminary will advance to the championships and will be joined by the top 12 finishers in those same events from the West Preliminary.
