Cullowhee, N.C. – The Western Carolina volleyball team travels to Chicago this weekend for the four-team Windy City Invitational hosted by Chicago State.

Western Carolina will face Cal State Fullerton Friday at 11 a.m. Eastern followed by a contest against Alabama State later in the day at 3p.m. Eastern. The Catamounts and Chicago State square off at 2 p.m. Saturday to close out the tournament. Western Carolina and Cal State Fullerton meet for the first time while the Catamounts are 2-1 all-time against Alabama State and 2-0 against Chicago State. The Catamounts are 1-2 after a season-opening win over Georgia State and losses to Fordham and Lamar.

Senior libero Meagan Sanchez was named the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Sanchez leads the Southern Conference with 62 digs and 5.64 digs per set. Sanchez turned in a season-best 24 digs against Fordham on Saturday morning and had 22 digs in WCU’s 3-1 season-opening win over Georgia State on Friday night. She also had 16 digs against Lamar on Saturday afternoon.
