Morganton, N.C. – Western Carolina junior Brianna Plummer sits in a two-way tie for sixth place after 18 of the 36 scheduled holes at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate, carding a 4-over par opening round 76 on Sunday to lead the Catamounts to eighth-place with 18 holes to play at the par-72, 6,161-yard Mimosa Hills Golf Club.

Plummer paced the Catamounts which posted a team-score of 321 on Sunday. Sophomore Hazel Martin shot 8-over, 80, in a tie for 27th overall while classmate Maya White is tied for 29th entering Monday’s final 18 holes. Rounding out WCU’s scoring five on Sunday were senior Shannon Heerey in a tie for 39th at 84 and sophomore Harper Gilreath in a tie for 43rd at 86.

Longwood leads the nine-team field by a stroke after shooting 309 on Sunday, just ahead of a two-way tie for second place between Appalachian State and the Elon “A” team at 310. The Elon “B” team is fourth at 312 with Gardner-Webb rounding out the top five at 313.

Elon’s Adel Vadkerti was the lone golfer on Sunday to shoot under par, carding a 1-under 71 to lead the 52 golfer field by a stroke over second-place Diana Domenech (72) of Longwood.

Monday’s final round is scheduled for a 9:00 am shot gun start.
