Salem N.C. – The Western Carolina men’s golf team is in 15th place after Friday’s first round of the Clemson Invitational, hosted at The Cliffs at Keowee Falls. The first round of play was delayed until a 1 pm shotgun start after heavy rains on Thursday night.

The second round is scheduled for Saturday morning with set tee times off the first and 10th holes beginning at 9:00 am. Paired with golfers from Boston College and Elon, WCU’s scoring five will go off the back nine beginning at 10:10 am. Live scoring is available online at

Sophomore Michael Coe paced WCU on Friday with an opening round of 2-over par, 74, to sit in a tie for 42nd overall while freshman Louis Theys shot 4-over, 76. Rounding out WCU’s scoring five were freshman Tumi Kúld and sophomore Zach Caudill in a tie for 62nd with scores of 5-over par 77 and senior George Whitbread (83) in a tie for 80th overall.

Georgia Tech holds a one-stroke edge over in-state rival, Georgia, 272-to-273. Duke is three strokes off the pace at 275 with Clemson (283) and Virginia (285) rounding out the top five. Adrien Pendaries of Duke leads the individual leaderboard
