Boulder City, Nevada – Western Carolina carded a team-low round of 300 on Saturday to close out competition in 10th-place at the Jackrabbit Invitational, hosted by South Dakota State at the Boulder Creek Golf Club.

Senior George Whitbread led the Catamounts, sliding into a tie for 30th overall after a final round 77 for a three-round total of 227. Sophomore Zach Caudill slipped seven spots while freshman teammate Tumi Kúld climbed six spots to both finish tied for 41st at 229. Caudill finished his final round with a 4-over par round of 76 while Kúld posted his best round of the 54-hole event with a 1-over par, 73. Both Whitbread and Kúld finished with six birdies in the event.

Rounding out WCU’s scoring five was sophomore Michael Coe, up three spots into a tie for 63rd overall at 235, carding an eagle on the par-5, 582-yard 11th on Saturday while freshman Louis Theys advanced four spots into 79th overall at 243 with a final round 3-over par, 75.

Playing unattached as an individual, sophomore Chandler Metz finished 87th overall with a three-round score of 256.

Second-round leader James Madison cruised to the team championship by 24 strokes over the runner-up, Texas State, 865-to-889. SIU Edwardsville slipped one spot to finish third at 890, with UC Santa Barbara (891) and South Dakota (896) rounding out the top five.

JMU’s Nacho Montero paced the individual field, winning by eight strokes over Zach Smith from UC Santa Barbara, 203-to-211. The Dukes’ Ben Tucker, playing unattached as an individual, finished third with a three-round score of 217.

Western Carolina remains out west during spring break, returning to action on Friday, March 15 with the first two of three rounds in the Grand Canyon Invitational, hosted by Grand Canyon University at its home golf course in Phoenix, Ariz. Live scoring will be available online through
