CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women’s tennis closed out day two of the WCU Invite Sunday at the Catamount Athletic Complex.

The Catamounts played Presbyterian and North Carolina A&T in singles and closed out the day with a doubles match against Tusculum.

Presbyterian had strong singles play against Western Carolina taking five of the seven matches. WCU did get a pair of wins, however, as Savannah Taranto won 6-4, 6-2 and Alexa Webb notched a 7-5, 6-2 win.

In an opposite of the team’s opening singles play of the day, Western Carolina took five of six matches against North Carolina A&T. Freshman Jacy Smith moved back up to No. 2 singles, after playing at No. 3 earlier in the day, earning a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win. Taranto earned her second singles win of the day at No. 3 singles in a three-set match 4-6, 6-2, 6-0. Alexa Webb (6-0, 6-1), Caitlin Ward (6-1, 6-0) and Julie Pezzuco (6-0, 6-1) each got wins at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles respectively.

In the lone doubles match of the day, Tusculum took two of three matches from the Catamounts. Ward and McCall combined at No. 3 singles for a 7-4 win.

Western Carolina will take a few weeks off before closing out fall play by traveling to Spartanburg, S.C. for the Wofford Invite Nov. 2-4.
