CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Western Carolina softball junior second baseman Erica Hayes has been named to the 2019 Southern Conference Championships All-Tournament Team as announced by the conference office late Saturday evening.

Hayes, from Cary, N.C., is the fifth Catamount in the program’s history to be named to the SoCon All-Tournament team. She joins Mendy McKenzie (2007), Jordan Garrett (2015), Courtney Price (2015) and Madison Armstrong (2017).

In the three games Western Carolina competed in the SoCon Championships, Hayes had a .545 batting average with six hits, two triples, and three RBI. She was the catalyst in the No. 7 seed Catamounts’ shocking 6-4 win over No. 2 Samford to open the tournament going 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBI. It was Hayes’ two-RBI triple that gave the Catamounts the 6-4 lead in the top of the seventh inning against the Bulldogs and led to the victory.

In the battle with Mercer, in which WCU dropped a heartbreaker 7-4, Hayes went 3-for-4.

With her pair of triples in the tournament, Hayes now has six triples in her career and moves into a tie for second place in the Western Carolina record books for triples.

Hayes ended the 2019 season with a season-best 34 RBI ranking tied for 12th in the WCU record books for RBI in a season. Overall, she ends the year with a .238 batting average with 36 hits, 17 runs scored, six doubles, three triples, and seven home runs.

Western Carolina closes out the season with a record of 21-32.
