CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Freshman Jacy Smith tied the school record for most singles wins in a season earning her 16th win of the year as Western Carolina women’s tennis fell to visiting ETSU 6-1 Friday at the Catamount Athletic Complex.

 

TURNING POINT:

ETSU won the doubles point and went on to take five of six singles matches.

 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • The Buccaneers took the early lead winning two of three of the doubles matches. The No. 1 Catamount doubles tandem of Jordan Strickland and Savannah Taranto helped the Catamounts avoid the shutout in doubles winning 7-6.
  • ETSU went on to take five of the six singles matches for the win. The Catamounts did take three of the singles matches to a tie-breaker.
  • The lone Catamount win in singles play came from WCU rookie Jacy Smith who took the win at No. 2 singles 6-4, 3-6, 10-7.

 

NOTES:

Smith has won 12-straight matches at No. 2 singles and 15 of her last 16. She currently leads the team with a 16-3 singles record and 5-1 in Southern Conference play.
