Macon, Ga. – Western Carolina freshman Amy Wooten posted a two-round score of 153 that included her collegiate career-low round of 1-over par 73 in the second round on Monday to lead the Catamounts to a 12th-place showing with 18 holes remaining at the Idle Hour Collegiate Championship. Wooten sits in a four-way tie for 29th overall.

Paired with golfers from McNeese and Towson, WCU’s scoring five hits the course between holes 12 through 15 with Tuesday’s 8:00 am shotgun start at the par-72, 6,083-yard Idle Hour Golf Club.

Wooten carded a team-best 26 pars over the first 36 holes, tied for the second-most in the tournament field. After an opening-round 8-over par, 80, the Clinton, N.C., product used a pair of birdies on consecutive holes to shoot 2-under on the back nine and move to 1-under through 11 holes. Bogeys on the par-5 fourth and par-4 sixth left her at 1-over, her best 18-hole score as a Catamount.

Junior Brianna Plummer rebounded from an opening-round 10-over par 82 to shoot a season-low round of 5-over 77 to advance nine spots in the second round into a tie for 51st overall at 159. Sophomore Hazel Martin is a stroke back in a tie for 57th overall at 160.

Rounding out the Catamount scoring five is sophomore Maya White in a tie for 67th at 165 (79-86) and classmate Cameron Wood in 69th-place overall with a score of 166 (85-81).

Mercer put three individuals inside the top four including two-thirds of the podium with leader Terese Romeo at 140 (70-70) and second-place Payton Schanen at 142 (70-72) to hold a commanding 20-stroke lead over runner-up, Eastern Kentucky. The Bears posted rounds of 286 and 287 for a 36-hole tally of 573 while the Colonels shot 593 (295-298). Toledo (596) sits in third with Troy (600) and James Madison (605) rounding out the top five teams.

WCU’s final round of the fall portion of its 2018-19 schedule is slated for Tuesday to conclude play at the Idle Hour Collegiate Championship. Live scoring is available online at GolfStat.com.
