Spartanburg, S.C. – Freshman Amy Wooten matched her opening-round score of 7-over par, 79, on Tuesday to post her career-best finish, placing in a tie for 34th overall to lead Western Carolina at the Terrier Intercollegiate which concluded at the par-72, 6,012-yard Country Club of Spartanburg. The Catamounts slipped one spot in the final standings, coming home 15th overall with a two-day score of 656 (330-326).

Wooten carded 13 pars against three bogeys and two double-bogeys over the final 18 holes on Tuesday for WCU. The Clinton, N.C., native finished tied for sixth in the tournament field with a team-best 25 pars over the two rounds.

Sophomore Maya White knocked two strokes off her second-round score to finish tied for 54th overall with a two-day score of 162. She was flanked by her classmate Hazel Martin who slipped into a five-way tie for 60th at 163 (79-84). Martin led WCU with four birdies over the 36-hole event and finished tied for seventh in par-5 scoring (4.88, -1).

Rounding out WCU’s scoring five were junior Brianna Plummer who advanced into a tie for 77th overall at 173 (90-83) and sophomore Cameron Wood in a tie for 84th at 177 (90-87). Plummer was seven-strokes better in Tuesday’s round.

High Point took first place, shooting 34-over par (610) and held off Palmetto State rivals USC Upstate and Winthrop which finished tied for second, two strokes in arrears at 612. Georgia Southern slipped to fourth at 613 with Samford (614) carding the low team round of the day at 303 to advance into fifth-place. SoCon foe – and tournament host – Wofford (635) finished 12th and The Citadel (669) was 16th.

First-round leader, Wofford’s Becca Earl, claimed individual medalist honors by two strokes over a two-way tie for the runner-up spot, shooting even-par 144 (71-73). Georgia Southern’s Ella Ofstedahl and Madeline Davis of Samford finished tied for second at 2-over par, 146.

Western Carolina plays its third-straight event to close the fall portion of its schedule next week, Nov. 5-6 at the Idle Hour Collegiate Championship hosted by SoCon-foe, Mercer. The 54-hole event will be played at the Idle Hour Country Club in Macon, Ga.
