Spartanburg, S.C. – Western Carolina redshirt junior guard Mason Faulkner was today named the Southern Conference Player of the Week presented by Geico for contests played Nov. 12-18. The award is selected by the league office and is the first for Faulkner in his WCU career.

The Glasgow, Ky. native recorded the first triple-double in Western Carolina’s NCAA Division I era, which began in 1976-77 - and quite possibly the first in school history, according to research and available records in a win over North Carolina A&T on Nov. 12. Faulkner finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. All 10 of Faulkner’s rebounds in the game came on the defensive glass in the 90-64 win against the Aggies.

Faulkner followed his historic performance on Friday with a game-high 21 points in 79-74 setback at Florida State. He went 6-for-15 from the field and was a perfect 7-for-7 at the free throw line.

In three of WCU’s four games this season, Faulkner has finished with 20-plus points in three games and is currently second in the SoCon with 17.8 points per game. He also leads the league in assists with 6.8 per game.
