Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina men’s basketball head coach Mark Prosser announced the signing of Joshua Massey and Daniel Ransom during the early signing period. Both Massey and Ransom will join the Catamounts for the 2020-2021 school year.

“We could not be more excited about adding these two wonderful young men and basketball players to our program here at Western Carolina,” Prosser stated. “They exemplify the characteristics of student-athletes that we want to add to our program, both on and off the court.”

Massey is a 6-6 guard from Monroe, N.C. and attends United Faith Christian Academy playing for head coach Josh Coley. As a junior, Massey averaged 12.3 points and 2.8 rebounds per game and was named to the NCISAA 1-A All-State team. He finished in double figures in 14 games including a season-high of 29 points. Massey played AAU Basketball for Nike Team United and head coach Ed Cooke. He averaged 7.8 points and 1.2 rebounds per game during the most recent AAU season.

“Josh Massey is a young man that possesses a skill set that is close to being college-ready,” Prosser commented. “His size and ability to score the basketball should allow him to carve out a niche for himself in our system very quickly. He comes from a very successful program at United Faith Christian and we could not be more excited to welcome Josh and his wonderful family into ours!”

Ransom is a 6-6 forward from Charlotte, N.C. and attends Vance High School playing for head coach Brian Frasier. As a junior, Ransom averaged 9.1 points and 6.9 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. During his sophomore campaign, Ransom averaged 7.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Ransom played AAU basketball for Team Charlotte and head coach Jeff McInnis.

“Daniel Ransom exemplifies everything that we want in our program, and we want to coach,” Prosser said. “He is a relentless competitor, communicator, and defender and will immediately bring a toughness into our locker room. He does the things already that you shouldn’t have to coach and they will translate immediately. He will have a very successful year at Vance with Coach Frasier and we look forward to welcoming Daniel and his great family into ours.”
