Spartanburg, S.C. – Senior Abigail Veit and junior MaKenzie White both finished in double figures in kills, but Western Carolina was downed by Wofford 3-0 in a Southern Conference match on Friday evening at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. Wofford won by scores of 28-26, 25-17 and 25-21.

Wofford improves to 14-13 overall and 7-6 in league matches while the Catamounts are now 16-10 and 10-3.

Veit had a team-best 11 kills and was closely followed by White with 10. Junior Hannah Price dished out 28 assists. Senior Meagan Sanchez had eight digs. Veit recorded two of WCU’s five service aces.

Catie Cronister led the Terriers with 13 kills followed by Meghan Yaffa with 10. Chasidy Sharpe had a match-best nine digs.

A tightly contested opening set featured eight lead changes and 15 ties as neither team led by more than three points. The Terriers jumped out to an early lead before a Wofford error evened the set at 10. After a White kill gave WCU a 17-14 lead, Wofford scored five straight points to reclaim the lead. Wofford took the set on consecutive blocks by Riley Coonan and Cronister.

The Terriers jumped out to a 9-3 advantage in the second set before the Catamounts pulled within three, 13-10, after a Terrier error. Wofford responded with a 4-0 run as the Catamounts got no closer than five points the rest of the way.

WCU took an early lead in the third set but the Terriers battled back to claim the set and the match.

The Catamounts conclude their South Carolina road swing Saturday at The Citadel. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
