WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Western Carolina women’s tennis closed out the fall at the ITA Carolina Regional this weekend.

The Catamounts had key experience at this regional tournament that featured top players from North and South Carolina.

Senior Jordan Strickland and rookie Emily Elliott earned a quality win in the main draw singles opening round defeating Clemson’s duo of Laura Marti/Zaina Nait Omar 8-4 before falling the second round.

Redshirt sophomore Jordyn King earned a win at the B singles draw defeating Alexandra Hiddell of Wofford 6-4, 7-6(1) before dropping the third-round match. She also fell in the B singles consolation round.

Mackenzy Middlesbrook defeated Strickland 6-3, 4-6, 10-6

Maryann Rompf (Furman) defeated Jacy Smith 6-3, 1-6, 6-3

Second Round - Jordyn King defeated Alexandra Hiddell (Wofford) 6-4, 7-6(1)

Third Round – Kiana Rizzolo (Elon) defeated King 7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-2

First Round – Nicole Ncube (East Carolina) defeated Emily Elliott 6-3, 6-0

 

B Draws Singles Consolation

Second Round – Elliott defeated Ansley Hardeman 6-3, 6-4

Third Round – Victoria Walter defeated Elliott 6-0,6-1

 

Main Draw Doubles

First Round - Jordan Strickland/Emily Elliott defeated Laura Marti/Zaina Nait Omar (Clemson) 8-4

Second Round – Rafaela Santos/Alisa Soloveva (Winthrop) defeated Strickland/Elliott 8-2

First Round – Ana Luisa Cruz/G. Asensi (South Carolina) defeated Jacy Smith/Jordyn King 8-4

Western Carolina closes out the fall portion of its schedule Nov. 8-10 at the Wofford Fall Invite in Spartanburg, S.C.
