Jonesboro, Ark. – Freshman Pierre Viallaneix carded a two-round score of 1-over par 145 on Monday to sit in a tie for 13th overall, leading Western Carolina to ninth-place with 18 holes remaining at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate at the par-72, 6,565-yard RidgePointe Country Club. The Catamounts countered a first-round score of 305 with a 294 over the second 18 holes on Monday to enter Tuesday’s final round just six strokes outside of fifth-place.

Fifth after the first round with a 2-under round of 70, Viallaneix slipped eight spots into a tie for 13th over the second round after shooting 3-over 75 for a two-round total of 145. The Apopka, Fla., native countered two bogeys on the back nine with a combined four birdies for the 2-under round. In round two, Viallaneix birdied the first hole before carding bogey on four of the remaining 17 holes for the 3-over round.

Conversely, redshirt freshman transfer Tyler Bussert bounced back from a five-bogey, 5-over par 77 in the first round to shoot 2-under par 70 in the second round, climbing 17 spots into a tie for 22nd after 36 holes. A second-year striker from Port Byron, Ill., Bussert overcame two bogeys and one double-bogey with six birdies the second time around.

Each of WCU’s remaining scoring five made improvements in Monday’s second round, each shooting three-or-more strokes better. Freshman Magnus Pedersen enters Tuesday’s final round in a tie for 48th at 153 (78-75), while junior Michael Coe is tied for 51st at 154 (80-74) up seven spots and sophomore Tumi Kúld in a tie for 65th at 159 (83-76), moving up three spots in the second round.

Tournament host Arkansas State built a 13-stroke lead over the opening 36 holes, leading second-place Oral Roberts 555-to-568. Texas-Arlington sits in third-place overall at 580 followed by South Dakota (592) and Nebraska-Omaha (593) rounding out the top five teams.

Arkansas State has four of its scoring five inside the individual top 10 overall led by tournament overall leader Julien Sale who climbed nine spots to sit atop the leader board by two-strokes over Dustin Hasley of Oral Roberts. Sale countered an opening-round, even-par 72 with a 7-under par round of 65 to shoot 137 while Hasley shot 71 and 67 for a two-round score of 139.

Paired with golfers from Northern Iowa and Valparaiso, WCU’s scoring five will tee-off beginning at 8:00 am and 8:36 am on the front nine. Live scoring is available online at Complete results and recap will be posted following Tuesday’s final 18 holes.
