Jonesboro, Ark. – Catamount men’s golf returns to action for its third event of the fall semester as it takes part in the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate, hosted by Arkansas State at the par-72, 6,565-yard RidgePointe Country Club.

The 54-hole tournament which is named in honor of one of the biggest supporters of the Arkansas State men’s golf program and junior golf in the state, gets underway with 36 holes of continuous play on Monday, Oct. 14 with the third and final round slated for Tuesday, Oct. 15. In addition to the host Red Wolves and the Catamounts, the 14-team field features many teams WCU will see for the first time on the golf course including Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Bethune-Cookman, Nebraska – Omaha, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma Christian, Oral Roberts, South Dakota, Southeastern Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin, Texas-Arlington, Utah Valley, and Valparaiso.

Paired with golfers from Stephen F. Austin and South Dakota, WCU’s scoring five opens tournament play between the eighth and 11th holes in Monday’s shotgun start at 8:15 am CT / 9:15 am ET. The final round is slated to start with set tee times.

Coming off a Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week honor two weeks ago, WCU freshman Pierre Viallaneix leads the Catamounts into action in the program’s first visit to the tournament. The Apopka, Fla., product currently ranks third in the conference among schools reporting men’s golf scores this fall with a seasonal stroke average of 70.83.

Viallaneix is flanked by classmate Magnus Pedersen in the No. 2 spot who is 11th in the SoCon with a 72.67 stroke average with sophomore Tumi Kúld playing at No. 3. Rounding out the Catamount scoring five after team qualifying are redshirt freshman Tyler Bussert and junior Michael Coe.

Western Carolina has placed ninth in its first two tournaments of the fall, advancing three spots in the final round of the season-opening Crusader Collegiate before matching the program’s fourth-best, 54-hole score in the home J.T. Poston Intercollegiate last time out earlier this month.
