SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina women’s soccer player Regan Ward has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition between Sept. 11-17.
Ward was a key contributor on the field, scoring all three goals for Western Carolina in a pair of wins. She netted back-to-back game-winning goals, with the first coming in a 2-1 defeat of High Point on Thursday and the other in a 1-0 shutout win over Radford on Sunday.
The Strongsville, Ohio, native leads the team with four goals on the season, which is also a new career-high for the junior. Her goal against Radford was only the fourth allowed by the Highlanders this season, who entered the contest having given up just three goals in seven games.
An integrated health science major, Ward holds a 3.863-grade point average.
This is the third-straight year Western Carolina women’s soccer has had a player named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week. The previous two years include Megan McCallister in 2017 and Shannon Burns in 2018. Overall, Ward is the eighth Catamount women’s soccer player named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week dating back to 2008.
