Cullowhee, N.C. – After playing the first nine matches of the 2019 season away from the Ramsey Center, the Western Carolina volleyball team opens the home portion of its schedule on Tuesday against mountain rival UNC Asheville at 6 p.m.
WCU students in attendance will receive free Dunkin’ Munchkins while supplies last.
Western Carolina is 2-7 overall following the Appalachian Invitational last weekend. The Catamounts dropped three 3-1 decisions to Appalachian State, Iowa State, and NC State. Senior Abigail Veit had a career-high 20 kills against Iowa State while classmate Meagan Sanchez had 31 digs against NC State. Sanchez was named the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for the second time this season.
UNC Asheville is 5-4 after splitting a pair of matches at the Georgia Southern Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Bulldogs lost to Georgia Southern 3-1 before closing out the tournament with a 3-0 triumph over Southern Miss.
The Catamounts and Bulldogs meet for the 51st time on Tuesday with Western Carolina holding a slim 26-24 edge in the all-time series.

WCU returns to the road this weekend, traveling to Wilmington for the UNCW Hampton Inns Classic against Drake, North Carolina A&T and UNCW.
