Spartanburg, S.C. – Western Carolina senior libero Meagan Sanchez was named the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday as announced by league officials. Sanchez earns the award for the second time this season and third in her career.
Sanchez recorded 76 digs for an average of 25.3 digs per match in three contests last week. Against NC State, Sanchez posted a season-best 31 digs, finishing two shy of tying her career-best of 33. Sanchez finished with 22 digs against Appalachian State and 23 against Iowa State and has finished with 20-plus digs in six of nine matches this season.
The Bristow, Va. native leads the league with 191 digs and an average of 5.79 per set.
Western Carolina hosts UNC Asheville on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the 2019 home opener. The match will be streamed on ESPN+ (subscription required).
