Cullowhee, N.C. – With the kickoff of the 2019 season rapidly approaching on Saturday, Aug. 31, it’s time to start gearing up for home games in Catamount Country at E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field. Here are some of the highlights of the amenities including multiple concessions options that surround football game days in Cullowhee.

This fall marks the debut of Catamount Eats, the new Aramark food truck that will begin serving the east side of Whitmire Stadium. The truck features “The Shack” menu including brisket sandwiches, barbeque sandwiches, dirty dogs and sweet potato fries. Also new to the stadium this season will be a local favorite, Jack the Dipper Ice Cream. Fans will have over a dozen flavors to choose from as a part of the first four home games of the 2019 football season.

In addition to the usual stadium fare from Aramark and drink options from university sponsor Pepsi, three additional local vendors return to provide additional options inside the stadium including Bojangles’, Speedy’s Pizza, and South of Philly.

Catamount Athletics continues to further its partnership with Bojangles’ and its “Famous Chicken ‘n Biscuits.” The Bojangles’ trailer made an appearance during pregame tailgating three seasons back before the Southern classic was made available for purchase inside the stadium two years ago.

Also, back this season is a long-time local favorite, Speedy’s Pizza will be served within both the east and west concourse of the stadium selling pizza by the slice. Sylva’s original and best pizza restaurant has been a favorite around Jackson County since 1973. Another popular local restaurant that will be on-hand this fall is South of Philly. They will be serving up their authentic Philly cheesesteaks, chicken Phillies and hoagies during home football Saturday’s this fall.

Looking for something to snack on, be sure to check out Tubby’s Caramel Corn & More of Cherokee for freshly-popped popcorn in a variety of flavors along with sugared pecans and almonds.

Other amenities surrounding most Catamount home football games is “Paws Playground,” presented by Western Builders, Inc., of Sylva. Back by popular demand, this special, fun area for kids will include inflatable games and is located just inside of Gate 1 at Whitmire Stadium. The area opens an hour and a half prior to kickoff for the first five of WCU’s home football dates.

One of the pregame highlights for the WCU football student-athletes and fans alike is the Catamount football “Cat Walk” which begins two hours and 15 minutes prior to kickoff at each home date with fans lining WCU’s path to the Ramsey Center to cheer on the football team as it heads to the locker room for pregame. Then, fans will want to make their way into Whitmire Stadium early for the full game day experience including the “Pride of the Mountains” Marching Band pregame show.

In looking ahead to the 2019 season-opener against Mercer, special attractions include a pregame option in Tailgate Town, located in Lot 9A at the Ramsey Center along Catamount Road that will include fun for Catamount fans of all ages. The area will include games, food options from the Chili Chomper 2 selling a variety of Mexican cuisine, and a live pregame concert presented free by Ingles as country music artist Joe Lasher will perform from approximately 4 pm – 5:30 pm.

Once inside the stadium, the opener will feature the first on-field performance of the “Pride of the Mountains” Marching Band with pregame festivities highlighted by the 9th annual “Freshmen Run” as the WCU Class of 2023 runs through the tunnel for their first home experience as students at Whitmire Stadium / Waters Field.
