Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina men’s and women’s head cross country coach Jesse Norman today announced the Catamounts 2019 schedule. The schedule features three regular season meets in North Carolina, all on Fridays, before competing in the Southern Conference Championship on the campus of ETSU.

“I’m excited about the upcoming meet schedule and the events we have on tap for the fall semester,” Norman stated. “I feel that this schedule will give us a good balance of high-quality meets and fast courses. This schedule is set up to put us in position to be competitive at the Southern Conference championships in early November.”

WCU opens the season at the Covered Bridge Open hosted by Appalachian State on Aug. 30. The Catamounts last competed in Boone, N.C. during the 2017 season at the Mountain to Sea Duels but are making their first appearance in the season-opening meet.

Following a three-week break, the Catamounts travel to Charlotte for the Queen City Invite on Sept. 27. In 2018, the men’s and women’s teams each tallied top-10 results at the event.

The final pre-conference tuneup will take place on Oct. 18 at the Pirate Invitational in Greenville, N.C. Last year, both the men’s and women’s teams scored fourth-place finishes in the team standings.

The 2019 Southern Conference Championships are scheduled for Nov. 2 in Johnson City, Tenn. The Catamounts hosted the 2018 league championships with both teams finishing in seventh place.

Western Carolina competes at the NCAA Southeast Regional in Rock Hill, S.C. on Nov. 15 with hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Championships on Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
