Cullowhee, N.C. – Wednesday marked the return of volleyball to the campus of Western Carolina as head coach Karen Glover had 13 players report for the opening day of camp. The team participated in photo and media day activities, and will take to the court for the first time on Thursday morning.

Returners: WCU returns 11 players from 2018 including seven starters and nine student-athletes who participated in 20-or-more matches a season ago. Among the returners are seniors Aleah Keaton, Meagan Sanchez, and Abigail Veit along with juniors Hannah Price and MaKenzie White, and 2018 Southern Conference All-Freshmen Team member Merry Gebel.

New Faces: Two newcomers join the Catamounts for 2019. Brooklyn Poling makes the trek to Cullowhee from Gilbert, Ariz. as an outside hitter. Johnna Robinson, a middle blocker from Calera, Ala. also joins the team for her initial collegiate season. Both Poling and Robinson surpass the six-foot mark in terms of height.

Preparing For The Road: Western Carolina hosts Anderson (S.C.) in an exhibition match on Aug. 26 before playing their first nine regular season matches on the road. The Catamounts are scheduled to face mountain rival UNC Asheville in the home opener on Sept. 17. at 6 p.m. WCU is away from the Ramsey Center for 16 of its first 17 matches thanks to 12 road or neutral site nonconference matches along with being on the road for the first two Southern Conference weekend sets.
