Cullowhee, N.C. – For a second-consecutive year, Western Carolina’s football media guide received an award as a part of a national publications contest. The 2018 Catamount Football Media Guide collected “First in the Nation” honors in the 2018-19 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) annual Publications and Digital Designs Contest, advancing from a runner-up finish in last year’s contest.
A complete listing of the CoSIDA award winners was released this week on CoSIDA.com on the heels of the national convention held last week at the Orlando World Center Marriott.
There are over 50 categories across the board in the annual CoSIDA Publications Contest with every program at each level of competition having the opportunity to receive recognition for their work. Fellow Southern Conference member, Chattanooga, claimed the runner-up spot in the 2018-19 design contest. It is the eighth CoSIDA Publications and Digital Designs Contest recognition for UTC in the last eight years. The Mocs’ Football Media Guide was voted “First in the Nation” in 2016 and No. 2 in the FCS in 2014.
Last year’s first-place winner, Missouri State, claimed the “best cover” honor this year.
The 2018 Western Carolina Football Media Guide was a product of the Western Carolina Athletics Department and the Office of Athletics Media Relations, written, designed and edited by Daniel Hooker, Assistant Athletics Director for Media Relations. Editorial assistance was provided by Directors of Media Relations Steven Grandy and Denise Gideon, as well as Catamount Sports Network correspondent, Greg McLamb. Special thanks to former WCU Sports Information contacts including Mike Cawood, Jody Jones, and Steve White for their part in the historical assistance in the publication.
The covers were designed by Daniel Hooker with element assistance from Todd Charles of WCU Marketing. The majority of the photos in the annual publication were provided by WCU’s Office of Communications and Public Relations with photographers Mark Haskett (retired) and Ashley Evans with select entries provided by the late Danny Hirt, a WCU alum. Printing of the publication was completed on-campus by Tom Frazier and the staff of the WCU Print Shop.
