Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina baseball has six players currently competing in the various wooden bat leagues around the country ranging from the Southeast-based Coastal Plain, Valley, and Southern Collegiate Baseball Leagues to the Midwestern Prospects League and the Northwoods League.

Additionally, sophomore outfielder Daylan Nanny received a temporary contract to play in the prestigious Cape Cod League which opens play on Monday, June 10.

Two Catamounts – SoCon Player of the Year, Justice Bigbie, and a rising redshirt senior in Andrew Bullock – are both playing in the Northwoods League for the second-or-more season. Bigbie returned to Madison, Wis., to play for the Mallards while Bullock made the move north to Fond du Lac, Wis., for the third-straight summer to play for the defending Northwoods League champion, Dock Spiders.

Kitt Capell is playing closer to home in the Coastal Plain League, a summer wooden bat league based in four southeastern states – North and South Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia. A product of Prosperity, S.C., Capell is playing for the Lexington County (S.C.) Blowfish in Lexington, less than an hour from his hometown.

Coming off his freshman season, Jalen Jones is playing this summer with the Danville Dans in the Prospect League, an 11-team league spread between six states including Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, and western Pennsylvania. His summer got off to a strong start, belting a pair of home runs as a part of a three-hit, three-RBI effort in a road win for the Dans.

Another freshman in hard-throwing RHP Eric Wallington is spending the summer on the mound with the Staunton (Va.) Braves of the Valley Baseball League based in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

Sitting out his freshman season due mostly to injury last spring, Seth McAulay is playing close to his hometown of Huntersville with the Mooresville (N.C.) Spinners of the Southern Collegiate Baseball League. He, too like Jones, has homered early in team action this summer, adding a double to his offensive onslaught.

Additional Catamounts may be placed at various wooden bat league teams throughout the summer months.
