SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina softball’s Hunter Gibbons’ All-Southern Conference First Team selection led the way as a total of three Catamounts were honored with postseason accolades as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Junior Ashlyn Long was an All-SoCon Second Team selection while Bailey Huneycutt was placed on the SoCon All-Freshman Team.

This is the first time Gibbons, an outfielder from Woodleaf, N.C., was named to the All-SoCon First Team. She was a second-team selection in both her sophomore and junior campaigns. Gibbons is also the 13th Catamount to be named to the SoCon First team and the first since 2016 when the Catamounts placed Taylor Sigmon and Crystal Cyr on the team.

Gibbons leads the Catamounts with a .327 batting average with 48 hits, 27 runs scored, nine doubles, one triple, seven homeruns, and 27 RBI. She has 13 multiple hit games and six multiple RBI games. During the regular season, Gibbons rode a 10-game hitting streak and reached base safely in 13-straight games before both were snapped.

Gibbons broke the home run (35) and RBI (128) career records in her senior campaign. She also became just the fifth Catamount in the program’s history to score over 100 runs in a career resting at 105 ranking fourth in the WCU record books. She ranks second in the Catamount record books for doubles in a career with 34 just one behind senior teammate Madison Armstrong who ranks second with 35. Both are chasing the record of 37 set by former Catamount standout Courtney Price (2014-17).

Long, a shortstop from Willow Spring, N.C., earns her first all-conference postseason honor. She was a SoCon All-Freshman honoree in 2017. She currently ranks second on the team with a .260 batting average with 38 hits, 33 runs scored, six doubles, two triples, six homeruns, and 23 RBI. She is second on the team with 12 multiple hit games and has four multiple-RBI games. Her longest hit streak during the season was nine games along with her longest on-base streak.

Huneycutt, a first baseman from Oakboro, N.C., is the 11th Catamount rookie to be named to the All-Freshman team and the first since Long and Erica Hayes in 2017. She has started 45 games this season with a .259 batting average. She has logged in 29 hits, 22 runs scored, nine doubles, one triple, four home runs, and 10 RBI. She has notched six multiple-hit games and one multiple-RBI game. She also rode a seven-game hitting streak earlier in the season.
