MACON, Ga. – No. 7 seed Western Carolina women’s tennis closed out the season with a 5-0 loss to No. 2 seed ETSU Wednesday in the 2019 Southern Conference Championships on the campus of Mercer University.
The Buccaneers won the doubles point and went on to win four matches in singles as the remaining two singles were halted and listed as unfinished.
The Catamounts end the season with a record of 12-10 marking the second most single-season wins in the program’s history. The record stands at 13 victories set in 2017.
Junior Jordan Strickland ends her third-year as a Catamount with 36 career victories. She is one shy of tying the school record for most career wins which was set by former WCU standout Stacia Kissell.
Strickland was a 2019 SoCon Second Team All-Conference selection along with rookie teammate Jacy Smith who was also named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team. Smith ended her first year as a Catamounts with 16 seasonal wins just one shy of tying the school record for most singles wins in a season.
