GREENSBORO, N.C. – Western Carolina softball’s opening game of the three-game series Friday, at UNCG, was halted in the bottom of the sixth with one out and the Catamounts leading the Spartans 4-3. The two teams will resume the first game at approximately 11 a.m. Saturday and plan to complete the series later immediately following game one.

The two teams traded runs in the first inning as each team scored a run. In the third inning, Addie Pate and Erica Hayes each hit solo homeruns to give WCU a 3-1 lead. UNCG answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame to tie the game 3-3.
Senior Hunter Gibbons gave Western Carolina a 4-3 lead with a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning. It was the third home run of the game for WCU.
After Western Carolina held UNCG scoreless in the bottom of the third, sitting down the Spartans in order, the Catamounts failed to score in the top of the sixth.
Prior to the lightning and rain delay, the game was in the bottom of the sixth with one out on UNCG and a Spartan batter with a 3-2 count.
