CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Western Carolina men’s and women’s track & field teams are set to host their lone home meet of the 2019 outdoor season this Friday and Saturday with the Catamount Classic at the Catamount Athletic Complex with action scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Friday and 12:10 p.m. Saturday.

Joining the Catamounts in the Division I portion of the meet is Southern Conference foe ETSU as well as Jacksonville State. Brevard, Carson-Newman, King, Lees-McRae, Mars Hill, Milligan, Montreat and Truett McConnell are also expected to compete. Admission to the event is free. Live stats will be available for the meet via a link on www.catamountsports.com.

The meet begins at 3 p.m. Friday with the women’s hammer, men’s javelin and women’s long jump followed by additional field events throughout the afternoon. The women’s 5k run at 7:30 p.m. followed by the men’s 5k at 8:15 p.m. wrap up opening day action.

On Saturday, WCU will honor 14 seniors as part of senior day festivities at 11:30 a.m. with track events starting at 12:10 p.m. with the women’s 4x100-meter relay. Field events are scheduled to commence at Noon with the men’s shot put, women’s discus and women’s high jump. The meet is scheduled to conclude around 4 p.m. with the men’s 4x400-meter relay.

At the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Ala. last weekend, Dakota Wright scored a win in the men’s discus while Christina Nikolaou took first place in the women’s 1,500-meter run. The men’s 4x400-meter relay team of Miles Greer, Devaniel Dale, Shon Pratcher and Caleb Albrecht wrapped up the meet with a win.

The Catamounts will compete for a SoCon championship on April 27 and 28 in Birmingham, Ala.
